What About Food?

Biggest concern for most!  We are not licensed to prepare food for you, however,
​we have gone to great lengths to make sure you don't go hungry!

Dine In at the Castle

Each suite has a microwave, Keurig, and mini fridge for personal storage and use (with a set of dishes).  In addition, there is a guest kitchen in the Lake Level that I keep stocked with general items free for your use (see Guest Kitchen) including a wide variety of self-serve breakfast items and condiments...oh...and frozen pizzas!  The kitchen is equipped with a portable induction stove top (2 burners), outdoor gas grill, microwave, and toaster oven. 

​Note: Off season stays may experience closures or limited hours in some local restaurants.  Dining in at the castle is a great solution :)

Local Food Hotspots

 In addition to the serve-yourself foods we offer onsite, customizing your stay at the Keweenaw Castle also includes assisting you with food choices, tips and tricks off site.  Here's just a small list of some of the amazing restaurants we have near us...  None have dress codes.  Many offer reservations during the busy season (mid June to mid October).
NOTE:  Always check to see if these places are open as many close for weeks at a time in the off season.   

North of the Castle

NORTH OF US:  There are only two highways going North to Copper Harbor.  M26 is along the shore and US41 in the center.

• Glacia Tavern (formerly The White House)  8 miles 

They offer everything from steaks, to pasta, to excellent (and I am picky) burgers and a very popular poutine (fries with gravy and chunks of fresh cheese).  They feature daily specials and a full bar.  Reservations suggested June-Early October.
Nancy's Pick:  Cajun Salmon Bowl or Brussel Sprout Salad (add Salmon).  Feta Vinaigrette on the House Salad!
Keith's Pick:  Ribs and baked potato.  Seconding Nancy with the Feta Vinaigrette.

• Slim's Cafe  8 miles

Across the street from the Glacia, this diner is only open through lunch and is very well known for it's breakfasts.  Very
homey and inviting.  Baked goods and Turkey Dinners on Sundays. 

• The Fitzgerald "Fitz"  6 miles

Small menu/smoked food in a very casual atmosphere hugging the shoreline.  You can walk in and sit at the bar (seating for 8) but it is a very small restaurant so make reservations online!!  They do have a private room for larger groups and offer takeout that you can eat on their lakefront deck.
Nancy's Pick:  Udon Noodles with full serving of both mushrooms and smoked brisket. 
Get the mac and cheese side and ask for BBQ sauce to add :)
Keith's Pick:  The Old Fashions

• The Eagle Harbor Inn (Eagle Harbor) 14 miles

​Family type of atmosphere with a wide range of food selection and great desserts.    Known for their pizza.  Eagle Harbor is a quaint little harbor town that's worth a drive to see.
Keith's Pick:  Ribs.  Definitely the Ribs.  Or Steak.  Definitely the Steak. Baked Potato.  Definitely the baked potato...  LOL

• Fletchy's Otterbelly (Eagle Harbor) 14 miles

Small, quaint, space with delectable breakfast and lunch options.  Also serves ice cream, pastries, and delicious coffees.  They also handle rental of certain outdoor equipment.

• The Harbor Haus (Copper Harbor) 40 minute drive 

Upscale and excellent! A quality food selection right on the harbor.  A must if you head this far north.  Make reservations to sit 5 feet closer to the floor to ceiling windows with a harbor view (other wise they do take walk-ins).  CLOSED IN OFF SEASON
Nancy's Pick:  Chilean Sea Bass (WOW!)
Keith's Pick:  Steak medallions with Lobster

South of the Castle

SOUTH OF US:  Two routes here, considered the "Lower" or "Upper" Highway locally
Other's include the Drift Inn Bar (really expanding their menu/newer owners) 15 min drive, The Hut (great homestyle food including lasagna that's fabulous/no alcohol) 20 min drive, Eva's Hideaway Bar (friends/great pizza/fun events) in Calumet, Carmelita's Southwestern Grille (thimbleberry margarita's) in Calumet, the Michigan House Cafe (burgers/microbrew) in Calumet, Miller's Bar and Lanes (bowling/hottest wings Keith has ever had) in Laurium which is on the other side of the highway as Calumet.  Quincy's (LOVE THIS!   Pizza, Deep fried crab stuffed mushrooms with honey mustard dipping sauce...  great specials) in Dollar Bay (on the "lower highway" brings you right back to the bridge).  The Dreamland is in an area referred to as "Bootjack" and has a wide variety of food to offer.
